It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rita Jane Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who passed away on April 8 2026, at the age of 88. Rita’s life here on earth came to a close, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and unwavering love.
Rita was born on August 8, 1937, to the late Jack and Elsie Chitty. She was raised in Wolverhampton, where she attended school and later qualified as a teacher at Whitelands College, London in 1959. She went on to work at a variety of primary schools in the West Midlands, West Country and Kent, sharing her passion for learning and for music.
Rita maintained a strong Christian faith during her life, training as a lay reader in 1995, and dedicated a significant amount of time and energy to the church community.
For 64 cherished years, Rita was married to Keith Johnson. Together, they raised two devoted daughters, Kate and Fiona. Family was integral to Rita’s life, and she was devoted to their well-being and happiness.
Rita leaves behind a legacy of love and profound impact on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on through the stories shared and the lives she touched.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the funeral service on Friday 1st May at St Mary’s Church, Nantwich at 2.30pm and the committal at The Birches Crematorium at 4.00pm. Refreshments will be available at The Vicarage, Cranage from 4.30pm.
